Real Madrid has no time for regrets and must push forward with its season despite a painful defeat against Benfica. Just hours after this brutal blow at the end of the Champions League group stage, the club will find out who its next opponent will be in the decisive Champions League Playoffs.

Who will Real Madrid face in the Champions League Playoffs?

This Friday, January 30, the UEFA Champions League playoff draw will take place in Nyon, Switzerland, where the matchups for the preliminary round before the Round of 16 will be officially revealed.

The team now led by Álvaro Arbeloa has only two possible opponents:

  • Bodø/Glimt
  • Benfica

It has already been confirmed that the first leg of the Champions League playoff tie will be played on February 17 or 18, while the return leg is scheduled for February 24 or 25.

The Norwegian side finished the Champions League group phase in 23rd place with nine points, posting a record of two wins, three draws, and three losses. Their most notable victories came against Manchester City (3-1) on matchday 7 and Atlético Madrid (2-1) on the final matchday-results that secured their spot in the playoffs.

Benfica

Benfica is the opponent that just stunned Real Madrid with a 4-2 victory and became the final team to qualify for the Champions League playoff round. The Portuguese side also finished with nine points, despite suffering five defeats. Their wins came against Fenerbahçe, Napoli, and the Spanish giants themselves.
