The NFL ‘distances itself’ from Tiger Woods and removes him from its latest collaborative ad

The future of professional flag football officially took shape on Monday, 30 March 2026, as TMRW Sports announced a landmark partnership with the NFL to develop a premier league for both men and women.

The initiative arrives at a moment of explosive global momentum for the sport, which is slated to make its Olympic debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

Designed to complete a developmental pathway from youth programs to the world stage, the league has secured a massive $32 million investment from NFL member clubs through their 32 Equity vehicle.

However, the high-profile launch was clouded by the notable omission of Tiger Woods from the official announcement, following the 50-year-old’s arrest on Friday in Jupiter, Florida.

Woods, a principal co-founder of TMRW Sports alongside Mike McCarley, was taken into custody on 27 March 2026 after his Land Rover clipped a trailer and overturned on a residential road near his home.

According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the golf legend was traveling at a high rate of speed and appeared lethargic at the scene, though a breathalyzer test returned a result of 0.00.

Because Woods allegedly declined to provide a urine sample, he was charged with DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test.

While he was released on bail later that evening, the timing of the incident, just three days after he captained his Jupiter Links team in the TGL finals, forced a rapid revision of Monday’s press materials to distance the new venture from his legal entanglement.

A powerhouse investor pool

Despite the shadow cast by Woods‘ absence, the league enters the market with one of the most influential backing groups in sports history.

The investor pool is a strategic mix of institutional capital and athletic icons, all aimed at capitalizing on the 50% increase in youth flag football participation seen since 2020.

Leading the charge is seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who has been a vocal advocate for the format’s creative and competitive potential.

“Flag football represents so much of what makes this game special,” Brady noted in a statement released with the announcement. “The extensive list of current and former players supporting this league shows just how strongly athletes believe in its future.”
