The New York Jets are targeting the Miami beast who will tear apart the NFL

At the NFL Combine, all 32 teams across the league were able to evaluate the new wave of talent set to arrive and potentially strengthen their rosters in a significant way. Among them are the New York Jets, a franchise that has been the laughingstock of the league one year, and then again the next.

Now, however, everything suggests that this narrative could shift heading into the 2026 season. The outlook appears promising based on what they observed, elements that could go a long way toward addressing the major issues that have plagued the organization for years upon years.

Despite head coach Aaron Glen appearing almost asleep at times, it seems the Jets’ staff did an outstanding job alongside the coaching group in determining who their first selection in the 2026 draft will be.

The Jets’ restructuring is on the way

The long-awaited restructuring of the New York Jets appears to have begun, even without any truly significant move having been made yet. Although free agency officially opens on March 11, 2026, at 4:00 pm ET, teams have already identified their potential targets.

Looking ahead to the draft in April, the Jets hold four of the first 44 selections, allowing them to choose high-potential collegiate players capable of thriving at the professional level.

  • 2nd overall pick
  • 16th, acquired through the trade with the Indianapolis Colts for Sauce Gardner
  • 33rd
  • 44th, via the trade sending Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys

In addition, the Jets possess the second-highest salary cap space in the entire NFL and three more first-round selections in the 2027 draft. With these assets, the franchise could very well rise from the ashes.

Really important next few weeks.

Darren Mougey

Jets general manager Darren Mougey said at the combine, via the Jets’ site.

Some of the moves made by the Jets this offseason include:

  • Jermaine Johnson II to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for 24-year-old defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat

With that trade completed, the expectation is that their first selection could be the Miami edge rusher:

  • Rueben Bain Jr., although they are also considering
  • David Bailey of Texas Tech
  • Arvell Reese of Ohio State

While everything points toward a comprehensive restructuring, Aaron Glenn left many doubts in his first year leading the franchise. It remains uncertain whether he can lift the team out of its prolonged struggles, even as he is surrounded by new talent.

From this point forward, the evolution of the Jets will be measured by the decisions they make in free agency and the draft. At this stage, they must already have a clear understanding of what is required to reemerge in the fiercely competitive environment of the NFL.
