Manny Pacquiao’s return was a new episode in the Filipino’s career, but it also marked a moment of nostalgia in the history of professional boxing. Fans enjoyed the return to the ring of one of the greatest professional boxers of all time at the age of 46, after a four-year absence, where Las Vegas was the venue for this moment to contest the WBC welterweight belt against Mario Barrios at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

But the biggest surprise came after the controversial decision to declare the fight a “majority draw”. A result that most of the fans did not like, where it has been argued that it was Manny Pacquiao who proposed the course of the fight, while Mario Barrios showed a conservative profile, although at times he did not give the minimum respect to the Filipino. For another sector of the public, Pacquiao should have imposed himself on his rival in a forceful way to snatch the belt, which did not happen. However, the new story is that details of the prize purse for both boxers have been revealed

Manny Pacquiao left Las Vegas without the belt, but with a big bag of money

Despite accepting the result decreed by the judges, Pacman took the gold where just by getting into the ring he earned a guaranteed purse of $12 million. This is in addition to a slice of the pay-per-view pie, estimated at another $4-5 million, and finally an approximate $1 million bonus for sponsorships. The sum of these revenues gives a total of $17-18 million.

Curiously, the famous Pacman came in as the challenger, but his legacy allowed him to put the fight in the spotlight, which is why the eyes of the world were on Las Vegas that night. Meanwhile, defending champion Mario Barrios retained the welterweight belt, but was outclassed 17 times in terms of monetary rewards. The Aztec had a modest guaranteed purse of between $500,000 and $1 million, plus a share of the PPV revenue where his booty only reached $2.5 million at most.

Despite his age, Pacquiao continues to generate profits in the boxing world

The numbers don’t lie: Pacquiao generated more than 20 million PPV buys and $1.29 billion in revenue throughout his career, according to his boxing records. Even a slice of that pie drastically increases his haul.

It’s not just a salary, it’s a statement of intent. The fortune awarded to the veteran boxer frames the global appeal of boxing to the great legends of the sport. Despite the appeal in the ring, he clearly won in the world of earnings. And yes, even at 46 years old, the multi-world champion proved that boxing royalty never really fades away, it just gets richer.
