David Benavidez became the world champion in the light heavyweight division by decision of the World Boxing Council. This came after Dmitry Bivol refused to fight Red Flag despite a multi-million dollar offer.
How much was the offer that Dmitry Bivol rejected to not fight David Benavidez?
It was Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the WBC, who revealed that the Russian had $8 million on the table to agree to the battle with Benavidez and defend the light heavyweight belt.
However, the pugilist rejected them and so it was decided that Benavidez would be named champion of the division without having had a fight.
“He was offered 8 million dollars, a very good offer. In the previous fight he earned 2.7 million against Beterbiev, and in the second less than 3,” said the manager.
David Benavidez will now have to defend the super middleweight title and is looking forward to fights
With the title awarded to David Benavidez, the WBC hopes that there will be more fights in the pipeline for the defense of the belt and he can finally step into the ring in the category.
“Our champion is David Benavidez. Surely important fights are coming for him. There is a lot of talent in the cruiserweight division and many offers on the table,” Sulaiman concluded.
