The Mavericks suffer from a limited roster and ask the NBA for help; the Luka Doncic effect continues to have an impact

It’s been a nightmare of a season for Dallas, but now there are more problems, and not just on the court. This time around, the Mavericks are still dealing with the aftermath of Luka Doncic‘s trade to the Lakers.

The sudden departure of their most important player, combined with injuries to several players, has left the team in dire straits. The situation is so critical that they may not be able to comply with the NBA rule that requires a minimum of eight available players per game.

There is a high risk that they will lose games if they do not have the minimum number of available players.

And beware, it is not an easy problem to solve, Anthony Davis is still injured and some of them have two-way contracts close to their playing limit, they have the clock ticking to find a solution as it would be very unpleasant for their fans to lose games without even trying.

Mavericks turn to NBA for help

According to multiple sources, Dallas has already found its first solution by asking the NBA for a reprieve, but so far they still have no answers, causing concern and desperation within the Texas franchise.

“My understanding is that they have asked the league for relief and the league has not offered it at this time,” commented an ESPN journalist in recent hours.

However, it does not appear that the news they may receive will be very encouraging, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.

“The problem is this: the league cannot offer them any relief. That’s why they have strict salary caps,” the journalist shared.

The absence of Luka Doncic and the various injuries have put the Mavericks in a critical position, on the verge of not complying with the regulations of having at least eight players available, so they have requested an exception from the NBA.

But if the league grants the request, other teams may protest, asking themselves: “Why can they and not us?” For this reason, it is imperative that these moves be handled carefully without exceeding the salary cap.

The NBA has opted for silence and ghosting, but we should definitely be on the lookout for any news that may emerge.
