Details are still emerging about the car accident in Nigeria in which former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua suffered only minor injuries while his two friends lost their lives. They were his personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami. The vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan road in Ogun State, near Lagos. On Saturday, it emerged that the British fighter’s life was saved by a last-minute seat change before setting off on the journey.

“The journey started in Lagos and initially Anthony sat in the front seat, but the driver asked him to change seats. He did this because Anthony is a big guy and he couldn’t see well in the rearview mirror, so he asked him to move and sat behind the driver. From what I understand, Latif was in front and then switched seats with Anthony,”lawyer Olalekan Abiodun told Daily Mail when talking about the positions in the Lexus SUV.

The driver, accused of homicide

The driver Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode was charged with reckless driving before the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court. The police filed four charges against the driver: reckless driving, careless and negligent driving, driving without due care and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Joshua, born in Watford but to Nigerian parents, was on holiday in Nigeria after his victory over Jake Paul in Miami on December 19. After the accident, he was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
