Mike Tyson once again showed his most human side when talking about the relationship with his mother, Lorna Smith Tyson, who died in 1982 of cancer when he was just 16 years old.
“I never saw my mother happy or proud of me for doing anything,” the former champion confessed. “She only knew me as a wild kid running the streets, coming home in new clothes she knew I hadn’t paid for. I never got a chance to talk to her or really get to know her.”
That was the last image his mother had before she died, just as Tyson was beginning to emerge as a boxer. Just a couple of years later he would turn professional and begin a historic career that would lead him to conquer multiple world titles and become one of the biggest stars in the history of the sport.
Prize Fighter: The project that seeks to help families
Today, at 59, Tyson is looking to redirect some of his life experience into projects that make an impact. The most recent is Prize Fighter, an online shopping platform that promises to save users up to $500 a month.
“When I was a kid, it was hard to watch my mother struggle to keep us going. Every dollar counted. If Prize Fighter existed, it would have helped us a lot,” Tyson said in a post on X.
The proposal works in a community-based way: traders compete in real time for each order, ensuring that the buyer always gets the lowest price. Tyson is not only a brand ambassador, but also a co-founder along with ChaChing, ensuring that the platform redistributes sellers’ commissions for the benefit of consumers.
Tyson vs Mayweather: a fight no one expected
Although retired, Tyson remains actively involved in boxing. The news that recently shook the world was the confirmation of an exhibition fight against Floyd Mayweather, scheduled for the spring of 2026.
“I still can’t believe Floyd really wants to do this,” Tyson told CSI Sports. “It’s going to be detrimental to his health, but he wants to do it, so it’s signed and it’s going to happen.”
For his part, Mayweather stressed that this is another opportunity to expand his legacy: “I’ve been doing this for 30 years and no boxer has been able to tarnish my career. If I’m going to do something, it’s going to be something big and legendary.”
A legacy that is still alive
Between nostalgia for his mother, business ventures and even a return to the ring at the age of 59, Mike Tyson proves that he is still relevant beyond his retirement. His ability to reinvent himself keeps alive the connection with the fans who accompanied him in his heyday and with a new generation who see him as a cultural icon.
