The Philadelphia Eagles are pulling out all the stops this season. The front office is committed to returning to the Super Bowl next year and, to achieve that goal, is securing its top players. This includes making Jordan Davis the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL.
After boasting one of the most dominant defenses in the 2024 season, the Eagles’ 2025 numbers were disappointing:
- 5th in points allowed: 19.1 per game
- 8th in passing yards: 189.8 per game
- 13th in yards allowed: 314.2 per game
- 22nd in rushing yards: 124.4 per game
Following Milton Williams’ departure last offseason, Davis became a key piece in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s game plan, and the front office didn’t hesitate to offer him a lucrative contract extension.
Davis is the highest-paid nose tackle in the NFL
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Jordan Davis signed a three-year, $78 million contract extension. This makes him the highest-paid nose tackle in the league.
Davis was entering the fifth year of his rookie contract, and although the Eagles held an option on him, exercising it would have made him a free agent at the end of the 2026 season.
During his first three seasons, the fourth-year defensive lineman primarily served as a run stuffer. He primarily focused on first downs in more obvious running situations.
However, after Williams’ departure, Fangio gave him a more permanent role on defense, and Davis didn’t disappoint. In 2025, the defensive tackle tallied 72 tackles, 34 solo, 4.5 sacks, and nine tackles for loss.
The Eagles’ next task
With Davis secured, the team’s front office can focus on renegotiating Jalen Carter’s contract. The young defensive tackle is entering the fourth year of his contract, and Philadelphia could retain him for two more years if they exercise their fifth-year option.
However, press reports indicate that the front office, led by general manager Howie Roseman, doesn’t want to wait until the last minute and will try to secure the signing as soon as possible.
Davis is more effective against the run, while Carter, his former teammate on the Georgia Bulldogs, excels in pass-rushing situations. With these two players, the Eagles’ defensive line will be one of the strongest in the league.
