Stephen Curry is surely missing his former teammate Klay Thompson immensely. After spending several years together with the Golden State Warriors, Thompson departed for the Dallas Mavericks in 2024.
That great duo they managed to forge for a little more than a decade was broken apart, and now Curry can only celebrate his former teammate’s big performances through television. That was exactly what happened on a recent occasion.
The Warriors superstar shared an anecdote that touched him deeply. The great on-court strategist for Golden State explained that he was watching the game between the Mavericks and the Utah Jazz when Klay knocked down a pair of three-pointers and celebrated them.
Faced with that moment, Steph’s son Canon, just seven years old, asked whether Thompson was playing, and his father immediately responded.
Is Klay playing? Why you are not there?
Canon bluntly dropped the question on his father, who then answered and explained the situation.
Those things hurt. We’ve moved on in life, but I still remember how special that was, and it’s also a reminder of how unfortunate the current reality is.
Klay Thompson now struggles with the Mavericks
Thompson is now battling in Dallas, trying to help the lineup reverse the poor start they have endured in 2025. At this point, neither Anthony Davis nor rookie Cooper Flagg have been able to emerge as key pieces for Dallas.
The Mavericks currently sit in 12th place in the Western Conference with a 10-17 record, still unable to find the rhythm that could turn them into true contenders for a postseason spot.
Although there is still a long road ahead, every victory they allow to slip away could come back to haunt them, and by the time urgency sets in, it may already be very difficult to close the gap on the teams above them.
They are just one game behind the Portland Trail Blazers, who have one fewer loss, and that could allow Dallas to move up a position. However, it is worth remembering that the level of quality and talent in each game is enormous, so they cannot afford to lose focus if they want to keep climbing the standings.
