Jesse Palmer left the NFL to fully immerse himself in the world of television. Whether as a football analyst or as a reality show host, his past in the trenches appears to be behind him as he now enjoys the lights and cameras.

Palmer played five seasons in the NFL and is originally from Toronto, Canada. He studied at the University of Florida, and in 2001, he entered the league in the fourth round, selected 125th overall to play for the New York Giants.

He remained in the Big Apple until 2004, later continuing his path with the San Francisco 49ers in 2005 before returning to a team in his home country, the Montreal Alouettes. However, there he only spent time with the practice squad.

Palmer’s numbers during his brief NFL career were as follows:

  • He attempted 120 passes
  • Completed 63 of them,
  • Accumulated 562 yards,
  • Threw three touchdowns
  • Recorded four interceptions

After leaving the NFL, he made it clear to other players that there is life after the gridiron, and in his case, a very successful one.

Jesse Palmer joins television with The Bachelor

In 2004, he auditioned to become the lead of the fifth season of the reality show The Bachelor. In addition, he became a college football analyst for ESPN/ABC and The Sports Network, TSN in Canada.

He has also appeared on Good Morning America. Since 2017, he has been the host of the program Holiday Baking Championship on Food Network. In 2018, he served as the host of the initial season of the show The Proposal.

The anecdote of Jesse Palmer, where he described a near-death experience

The upcoming season of The Bachelorette will premiere at the end of March 2026, and regarding something that recently happened to the 47-year-old former quarterback, he chose to speak about it.

It was really eye-opening.”…”I was so naïve to the size of the show and how big it was going to be. I remember being fascinated by how many people were involved. I thought it would be six people and a producer somewhere in the room. I was in awe on that first day.

He told Parade, and added about that moment when he nearly died:

I almost died in Fiji.

Charity [Lawson] and Dotun [Olubeko] had this amazing one-on-one date on this secluded little island in the middle of the water. I watched them on their date and thought about how I’d love to just go out there by myself and spend a couple hours on that beach when we were done filming. So I went out there. But then the storm blew in, and the tide started climbing up onto the beach-to the point where the beach almost got completely covered by the ocean. I’m just out in the middle of the ocean, and there’s nothing there. And I thought to myself, I’m just going to have to tread water and hope a boat comes by and picks me up. At the very last second, a boat came out to check on me. But I did have some bad thoughts for a moment. Like, this is so crazy and ironic if this is how it ends.

Jesse Palmer

Today he can recount it, but at the time it was an extremely difficult situation. The premiere of season 22 of The Bachelorette will take place this Sunday, March 22 at 8:00 pm ET.
