The ‘cannibal’ method with a boxer’s wife’s placenta to prepare for his next fight

Australian boxer Nikita Tszyu has revealed an unconventional practice he is following to prepare for his upcoming bout against the unbeaten Lulzim Ismaili on August 20. According to Tszyu, his diet includes consuming capsules made from his wife’s placenta and, in some cases, even breast milk.

“We’ve freeze-dried her placenta and I’ve been supplementing with it recently in pill form. I’ve gone on to technically be a cannibal. It’s actually like a superpower. I’ve done tests with my sparring partners (days when I’ve taken it and days when I haven’t) and I feel like I have an incredible amount of energy,” Tszyu told Triple M Breakfast.

The boxer also confirmed that he had tasted his wife’s breast milk: “They say breast milk is the best thing you can have. It’s so good for you, so clean,” he says.

The practice of consuming placenta, known as placentophagy, has been gaining popularity in Australia among some mothers. Advocates claim it can boost energy, aid postpartum recovery and stimulate breastfeeding, although the medical community remains divided on its real benefits. The process usually involves dehydrating the placenta, pulverizing it and encapsulating it for ingestion.

Beyond his diet, Tszyu says the arrival of his daughter has given him an extra boost in training. However, he admits that controlling his diet has been a challenge, especially after spending hours watching food videos before going to sleep: “I literally sit in bed at night looking at videos for an hour. Just food videos. It doesn’t matter what kind of food it is,” he adds.

With these unusual methods, Tszyu is preparing for a fight that promises to be one of the most anticipated of the year in Australian boxing
