The betrayal Aaron Rodgers nearly committed against the Green Bay Packers before signing with the Steelers

If the Wild Card game was Aaron Rodgers’ final appearance in the NFL, it will not damage his legacy in any way. The former University of California quarterback will be a Hall of Famer and one of the most successful players in league history. Rodgers put together a historic career filled with records, one Super Bowl title, and four MVP awards.

The game against the Houston Texans was truly painful for Aaron Rodgers. Two of his turnovers that resulted in touchdowns proved devastating for the Pittsburgh Steelers: one interception and one fumble that turned into 14 points in the fourth quarter for DeMeco Ryans’ team. Rodgers was never able to find his rhythm throughout the game.

Rodgers completed just 17 of 33 passes for 146 yards and was sacked four times. Fortunately, he did not leave the game injured, despite taking constant punishment from the Texans’ defense, play after play. This outcome was not surprising, as Houston boasts one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers wanted to join the Minnesota Vikings

Despite his successful career, there is no doubt that Aaron Rodgers is a quarterback who enjoys controversy. The way he left the Green Bay Packers, his prolonged decision to sign with the New York Jets, and later with the Steelers – who had to wait until June 2025 for him to agree to a one-year deal – all support that reputation.

During the Spanish broadcast of Monday Night Football for the Wild Card matchup between the Steelers and Texans, commentators Pablo Viruega and Eduardo Varela revealed that Rodgers’ greatest desire last offseason was to sign with the Minnesota Vikings. He believed he could accomplish great things with them, and for good reason, given elite receivers like Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

At one point, the Vikings seriously considered signing Rodgers, which is why head coach Kevin O’Connell delayed naming J.J. McCarthy as the starting quarterback as he entered his second season. Ultimately, Minnesota shut the door on Rodgers, leaving him with no other option but to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, a team desperate for a veteran quarterback.

If this was Aaron Rodgers’ final NFL season, he will have gone out as the AFC North champion, after a year in which he threw 24 touchdown passes and seven interceptions. True to form, the legendary quarterback will likely provide yet another offseason saga as he decides whether or not to retire from an extraordinary career.
