Terence Crawford is already looking past Canelo Alvarez into future plans, which could prove costly

One of the fights that many boxing fans have been clamoring for is actually coming to fruition. In September, Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will square off in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two of the best pound-for-pound boxers on the planet meeting in the ring is sure to draw plenty of eyeballs.

The onus will be on Crawford to pull off something that seems unlikely. Crawford has been the better boxer than Alvarez in recent years in many fans’ eyes, which would generally put “Bud” as the favorite. The problem is that Crawford is moving up two weight classes in order to meet Canelo in his usual division. Despite the odds stacked against him, Crawford firmly believes he’ll win, and he’s already thinking ahead.

Terence Crawford teases return to 154 to chase undisputed glory again

Crawford recently spoke to noted boxing journalists Ak and Barak, and revealed his roadmap following the Canelo fight right after revealing he took less money than he normally would to fight Alvarez.

I got $10 million for that fight [with Canelo]. I’m doing it for the opportunity, baby. The legacy. The legacy outweighs the money. Three-time undisputed. Oo-wee. Coming soon… I might go back down to 154 and do it again (become undisputed).

Crawford’s relentlessness at 37 years old should be commended. It’s not easy for boxers to age gracefully and still have that same drive for greatness after having won it all. Bud wants to take down Canelo, then reclaim his throne at super welterweight.

Crawford doesn’t seem like the type to overlook anyone, but he should be cautious to not look too far ahead. After all, the main goal right now is to beat Alvarez. Only two boxers have been able to do that, and Crawford would be doing it two weight classes heavier than usual. It would be one for the history books.
