Ter Stegen says goodbye: “I have mixed feelings”

The time has come to say goodbye, a farewell that has been postponed, perhaps, too long, but with the conditions that existed, the operation has not gone too badly for the main protagonist of this story

Marc-Andre ter Stegen said goodbye to 12 years of experiences with a clear Blaugrana colour. Captain and leader of a dressing room, the German has lived his last moments as a Cule in an uncertain way, to the point of seeing himself forced to seek a way out to achieve two fundamental objectives: to be close to his family and to play so that Julian Nagelsmann and Rudi Voller would not ‘forget about him for the World Cup.

His farewell letter on social media conveys a deep sense of love and attachment to the club, but also, as he himself recalls, it is more than found: that not wanting to leave but having no choice but to do so in order to move on and continue on his way. However, he does remember that it is ‘only’ “for the rest of the season”.

The farewell letter

Today is my last day of the season with my FC Barcelona teammates and coaching staff, and I honestly have mixed feelings. Right now, many memories and emotions come to mind. For almost 12 years, this club, and especially that dressing room, has been my home. A place where I have grown as a player and as a person, and where I have experienced unforgettable moments. I feel deeply grateful and proud. I love this club, that city and that country.

I carry with me a feeling that will never fade. Your support over the years has been incredible, thank you from the bottom of my heart. In the dressing room: thank you for so many years shared, for the day to day together, the laughter, the battles and the respect. I bring you with me. I have had the immense honour of wearing the captain’s armband, something I will carry with me forever. Now my journey continues in Catalonia, and I am very much looking forward to what is to come.

I wish you all the best for the rest of the season and I hope to see you lift many more trophies. See you soon
