There is no doubt that Sydney Sweeney has been one of the best-rated actresses in the last year and that everything she does resonates around the world. In this case, the actress made news for the work she is doing for a new film about a boxer, which had Sweeney working hard on the physical side to be able to play her role.
This is a biographical film about boxer Christy Martin. It will be directed by David Michôd and does not yet have an official title, but work is still in full swing on a story that tells the success of one of the most important female boxers in the United States while struggling with a complicated personal life.
The interpretation of the protagonist is not easy. It is a biography that combines a passion for sport with intense personal problems. Martin went through very difficult times with domestic violence, but she was able to move on and excel in boxing.
Intense physical work
In an interview with W Magazine, Sydney Sweeney explained what the process of interpreting Martin was like and the physical changes it generated in her.
“My body was completely different. I loved it. I joined to play Christy and had about three and a half months of training. I started eating. I did weight training in the morning for an hour, kickboxing at noon for about two hours, and then again weight training in the evening for an hour,” the actress explained.
My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy!
“I’m normally a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. I was like, ‘Oh, my God.’ But it was amazing: I was so strong, like an incredible force,” commented an excited Sydney Sweeney.
The story behind the boxer
Christy Martin’s boxing career lasted from 1989 to 2012. She is considered one of the pioneers in this sport for the United States and was a great representative for all women who had no opportunities in boxing. She was tremendously successful as a sportswoman, but at the same time she had to deal with personal problems.
Martin suffered domestic violence at the hands of her then-husband, Jim Martin and even in 2012 he shot her and luckily the boxer survived and finally divorced. Her life has not been easy, but she was able to recover and went down in history as one of the greatest examples of boxing.
