Coco Gauff was very upset on Tuesday after losing in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open to Elina Svitolina. The young American took out her frustration on her racket in one of the corridors leading to the locker rooms when she thought no one was watching. In a matter of seconds, the image went around the world.

Iga Swiatek, an authoritative voice on the WTA Tour, gave her own reflection on the Big Brother nature of the circuit: “Are we tennis players or zoo animals? It would be nice to have some privacy. It would be nice to be able to do certain things without feeling watched by everyone.”

The example of Wimbledon

The Pole misses tournaments like Wimbledon where there are areas where you can access with accreditation but there are no fixed cameras constantly recording. That circumstance does happen at the Australian Open where the Antipodean major is a 24-hour show

“We should be watched on the track and in press conferences, but not in the rest of the spaces. Our job is not to become memes for forgetting our accreditation,” explains the six-time Grand Slam champion.
