One of the most shocking stories in the baseball world was the involvement of Shohei Ohtani in a betting scandal in 2024. At that time, his interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, was involved in the case and despite all the commotion it caused, the athlete was exonerated and Mizuhara was found guilty.

As in any scandal, the criticism, controversy and doubts regarding the case continued for a long time and to date there are still people who are not convinced of the verdict that the justice system took, since certain arguments that were given at the time left much to be desired.

Recently, the main accusation that brought the case back into the public eye was that of Ozzie Guillen, who accused Major League Baseball of protecting him and covering up everything that had happened to avoid further problems and for marketing reasons. “Everyone knows that Shohei Ohtani bet and they protected him (Major League Baseball), gentlemen do not be so deceitful, hypocritical,” he said

Resolution of the case

Regarding the case, Mizuhara was accused of stealing around $16 million from the player’s account to pay gambling debts, and the court found that the renowned player was unaware of all this and was just another victim. Mizuhara was sentenced to 57 months in prison and had to pay $18 million.
