New York police have arrested a 20-year-old in connection with the November 16 shooting of Jets cornerback Kris Boyd in Midtown Manhattan.
Authorities said the suspect was apprehended in Buffalo and will be transported back to New York City to face charges.
The shooting occurred around 2:00 a.m. outside an upscale Manhattan restaurant, where Boyd and teammates were leaving after a night out.
A confrontation reportedly broke out when another group began taunting the players. Gunfire erupted, striking Boyd in the abdomen.
Police have described the arrested individual as a male last seen wearing a black sweatshirt and carrying a backpack.
Boyd, 29, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where doctors removed a bullet lodged in his lung. He was initially listed in critical but stable condition, and has since made progress in recovery.
While he remains focused on healing, the arrest marks a significant step in the investigation, according to ESPN and CBS News.
Investigation continues despite arrest
Officials stressed that the case is far from closed. Police are still gathering evidence and questioning potential witnesses to determine whether others were involved or if the shooting was part of a larger dispute.
Surveillance footage from the area is also being reviewed.
Boyd’s teammates and coaches have rallied around him, with reports noting his upbeat demeanor despite the trauma.
On 3 December, he returned to the Jets‘ facility, surprising teammates with his presence and receiving an emotional welcome.
While the arrest provides some measure of accountability, authorities continue to caution that more work is needed to fully resolve the case.
For Boyd, the priority remains his recovery, with fans and the team hoping he can return safely to the field once cleared by medical staff.
