Steve Kerr sends clear message to Warriors fans amid Steph Curry rumors

Steve Kerr delivered a blunt message to Golden State Warriors fans amid swirling uncertainty around the franchise: Steph Curry is not going anywhere.

As trade rumors and questions about Kerr’s own future intensified, the veteran head coach made his stance unmistakably clear following Saturday night’s 119-116 win over the Phoenix Suns. “I will never leave Steph Curry,”Kerr told The Athletic’s Zena Keita, pushing back strongly against speculation that the Warriors might move on from their longtime star.

The declaration comes at a tense moment for the organization. Golden State has struggled to resemble a true title contender this season and currently sits eighth in the Western Conference at 14-15, despite snapping a three-game losing streak against Phoenix.

Kerr, who has won nine NBA championships as a player and coach, is in the final year of his contract, and his long-term future with the franchise remains uncertain. The Warriors have not advanced past the Western Conference semifinals since winning the NBA title in 2022.

While the team briefly found renewed energy after acquiring Jimmy Butler at last season’s trade deadline – a move that helped fuel a first-round playoff win over Houston – their run unraveled when Curry suffered a hamstring injury against Minnesota.

Kerr’s offense will continue to revolve around Curry

Now, with Curry, Draymond Green, and Butler all in their late 30s, the window for another championship appears to be rapidly closing.

Still, Kerr emphasized loyalty over speculation, reinforcing that his offensive philosophy continues to revolve around Curry and Green – a formula that has defined the franchise for more than a decade.

Frustration around the team has also spilled into public view. Earlier this week, an email exchange between a disgruntled fan and team owner Joe Lacob went viral after being posted on Reddit.

In the response, Lacob acknowledged the fan’s concerns – including Butler’s perceived underutilization and the team’s lack of size – and admitted that the frustration is shared internally.

The episode fueled further scrutiny of Kerr, whose rotation choices and strategic decisions have come under fire this season. Even Lacob’s response appeared to subtly signal dissatisfaction with the team’s direction.

A fan’s letter that cornered Kerr

Kerr, however, downplayed the controversy. “Not a big deal,” he said of the email incident, while acknowledging the broader tension surrounding the team.

“We’re all frustrated,”Kerr said. “Joe is frustrated. I’m frustrated. Steph and [Draymond], everybody’s frustrated. This is kind of how the league works.”He did take issue with the fan making a private email public, calling that aspect disappointing.

Despite criticism – particularly regarding Butler’s role – Kerr has remained steadfast in his approach, continuing to prioritize the Curry-Green partnership that has delivered four championships over the past 12 seasons.

Whether this season marks the end of an era or simply another chapter, Kerr’s message was unmistakable: as long as he’s in charge, Steph Curry remains at the center of everything the Warriors do.
