Stephen Curry set to welcome Snoop Dogg debuting as an NBA analyst on New Year

We are officially two months into the NBA season, and as the one-third mark of the calendar approaches, with those iconic Christmas Day matchups just around the corner, the landscape of the league is finally taking shape. The defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder have firmly established themselves as the team to beat, while the Detroit Pistons are providing the season’s biggest Cinderella story with their best start in twenty years.

Beyond the win-loss columns, the NBA is celebrating a massive resurgence in popularity. This year marks the highest viewership in 15 years, with over 87 million people in the U.S. tuning in across NBC/Peacock, ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, and NBA TV, a staggering 89% increase compared to last season.

Snoop Dogg to Debut as Game Analyst on NBC Peacock

A major driver behind this ratings boom is the streamlined nature of modern broadcasts; fans no longer have to hunt through questionable streams to find a game, especially with the high-profile return of NBC to the NBA family. In an effort to keep that momentum going, the network is bringing some serious star power to the booth. On Monday, January 5, rap legend Snoop Dogg will make his debut as a game analyst for the Los Angeles Clippers versus Golden State Warriors matchup. Snoop will join Terry Gannon and Naismith Hall of Famer Reggie Miller during the second half of the game on Peacock.

As a Los Angeles native and a lifelong basketball fan, the opportunity isn’t lost on the hip-hop icon. “This is a dream come true for me,” Snoop Dogg shared ahead of the announcement. The broadcast should provide an interesting contrast in energy. While Stephen Curry and the Warriors are currently grinding through the middle of a crowded Western Conference, the Clippers have struggled significantly, sitting near the bottom of the standings with just seven wins. Snoop’s unique commentary might be exactly what the doctor ordered for a matchup between two teams heading in opposite directions.

Snoop Dogg’s Emmy-Winning Broadcast Evolution

Snoop’s foray into the NBA booth isn’t just a random celebrity cameo; it’s a continuation of his massive success with NBCUniversal. Last summer, he was the undisputed breakout star of the Paris Olympics. He was seemingly everywhere, carrying the Olympic torch before the Opening Ceremony and celebrating in the stands with icons like Simone Biles. His performance wasn’t just popular with fans; it was critical gold, earning him two Sports Emmys for his contributions to the coverage, including Outstanding Live Special.
