NFL players often find themselves in trouble on a regular basis. While it is not all of them, some certainly stand out for their actions off the field. One of the players who repeatedly finds himself in the middle of controversy is New England Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs.
It is worth recalling that before the Super Bowl he argued with the mother of his youngest child, singer Cardi B, and reports indicate they have already separated. However, this is not the only scandal linked to the player, who lost Super Bowl LX with his team this past Sunday, February 8, 2026.
The controversies surrounding Stefon Diggs
Diggs’ personal life has involved several issues that have placed him in the public eye. Here is a summary of them.
- Strangulation charges in December 2025 involving his private chef
- Sexual assault lawsuit in August 2025 filed by an influencer
- Paternity and relationship with Cardi B in 2025, when it was confirmed he was the father of the baby the rapper was expecting
- Controversial video on a boat where he was seen surrounded by women consuming a pink substance before joining the Patriots
As seen, he is a player accustomed to public scrutiny, although it does not appear to concern him much.
Stefon Diggs pleads not guilty to strangulation charges
Following the case from December 2025, when his former private chef accused him of strangling her in a dispute allegedly triggered by unpaid bills, Stefon Diggs entered a not guilty plea to the charges filed against him. The plea was entered at Massachusetts’ Dedham District Court, with proceedings scheduled to continue after Super Bowl LX.
At the arraignment, the receiver was expected to appear at a new hearing before April 1, 2026.
The chef told officers they argued over debts the player allegedly owed her and that during an encounter on December 2, 2025, she stated he:
Smacked her across the face.”…”tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.
Meanwhile, the receiver’s attorney said his client
Categorically denies these allegations. And regarding these actions, the Patriots released a statement saying,
I don’t think there will be a [plea] deal because I don’t think he is liable or guilty in any way, shape or form,
According to investigators, the woman did not immediately file the complaint, instead doing so on December 16, 2025, two weeks after the alleged incident.
Initially, she had not wanted to press charges, but later decided she would proceed. This Friday, February 13, 2026, the case held its first appearance, and now the judge is expected to determine the conditions for bail and whether further charges will follow.
