Reese Donatelli, a 4-year-old girl, took social media by storm when she shared her predictions for the latest NFL playoff games. However, one of them did not sit well with the girlfriend of Patriots WR Stefon Diggs.
Rapper Cardi B ignited the pre-game hype for the AFC Championship Game between New England and the Denver Broncos by harshly criticizing the girl, which provoked a reaction from fans.
Fans criticize Cardi B
On January 18, the rapper shared a controversial video in which a 4-year-old girl chooses football helmets from the team she believes will win for the past four years, and who has gained popularity for not getting the results right, which is why some fans described her predictions as a “reverse curse.”
“That little white girl said we weren’t going to win, f**k that b*tch! I told y’all,” Diggs’ girlfriend said in an Instagram live.
However, after realizing what she had said, she quickly apologized: “I didn’t mean to say that,” Cardi said.
After the clip went viral, Reese’s father, Anthony, a Pittsburgh Steelers fan, responded to the 33-year-old rapper: “That’s my daughter… She’s 4 years old. This is a lighthearted, family-friendly video where she randomly picks football helmets. Please don’t direct profanity toward a child,” he asked.
In addition, in an interview with the Los Angeles Times on Tuesday, the girl’s father focused on his daughter’s innocence when making her choices: “It’s nuts,” he said. “She’s obviously not an NFL analyst. She’s picking teams based on the color of her dress, or she’ll pick the Packers because she likes cheese. She just relates these silly little things as reasons why she picks certain teams.”
This series of videos, which began years ago, was intended to introduce the girl to the sport Anthony enjoyed with his father and to teach her colors and geography through NFL helmets.
However, fans also reacted to Cardi’s comments on @NFL_DovKleiman’s post: “We really need to stop making stupid people famous,” one commented. “Classic Cardi B always trying to start something controversial. All for the clips… this is terrible,” said another. “Cardi B calling a 4-year-old a b**ch while dating Stefon Diggs has to be the least surprising thing ever,” wrote a third fan.
Meanwhile, Diggs and New England will face the Broncos in the AFC Championship on January 25 at 3 p.m. EST and try to secure a victory that will take them to their first Super Bowl in eight years.
