Sophie Cunningham’s comments about Caitlin Clark have an unexpected consequence

Sophie Cunningham is currently spending her time working with different brands and generating income off the court. While the future of the league and its players is being discussed in ongoing conversations about salaries, she is taking advantage of her beauty to continue securing opportunities.

And while that happens, she also makes time to talk about her teammate, the major star of their team, the Indiana Fever. However, on occasions such as this one, her statements are not well received by fans, who accuse her of being opportunistic and of trying to benefit from her teammate’s name.

This past Tuesday, December 2, she announced that she would be participating in the women’s basketball league Project B, which is set to begin in November 2026. She also said she might try to bring her current teammate, Caitlin Clark, along with her.

All these leagues are great, but at the end of the day, if you don’t have the WNBA, you don’t have the platform,” Cunningham said on her “Show Me Something” podcast. “You don’t have the eyes. You don’t have the recognition… I tried to get her (Caitlin Clark) to play in Project B. She was like, ‘No.’

But this did not go as the Fever guard expected, because for some fans, her constant mention of her colleague was not appreciated, as it seemed she always wanted to gain something by inserting Clark into the things she does.

Sophie Cunningham, stop talking about CC challenge [IMPOSSIBLE].

Please stop asking/talking to me about her… IMPOSSIBLE

Cunningham replied.

Sophie Cunningham will participate in Project B alongside other WNBA players

When the WNBA season concludes, players must find other ways to earn income, whether through modeling, as is the case with Sophie Cunningham and the brands she collaborates with, or through sports-related projects that allow them to continue generating money for their livelihood.

For this reason, alongside Sophie, other league players have also committed to being part of the lineup for Project B, this women’s league that will run as an alternative to the WNBA and give athletes the possibility to keep playing and earning.

Some of the other talented players who will join her in this new adventure starting in November 2026, include:

  • Alyssa Thomas
  • Jonquel Jones
  • Jewell Loyd
  • Sophie Cunningham
  • Kamilla Cardoso
  • Li Meng
  • Janelle Salaun
  • Kelsey Mitchell

The opportunities opened by this new league are enormous and meaningful for the players, who will have access to different paths offered by this emerging movement.

The WNBA’s biggest star and face of the league, Caitlin Clark, has repeatedly rejected offers to join this and other alternative leagues, such as Unrivaled; she remains loyal to the professional league that drafted her out of college.

Clark prefers to stay committed to her league and not get involved in others, aside from potential 3v3 opportunities that could generate more income and exposure. However, for her, this moment is more about rest and reflection alongside her loved ones than joining additional projects.
