Sonia Citron delivered the kind of breakout performance Hive Basketball Club fans have hoped to see as Hive BC’s Unrivaled debut season continues to test the new franchise.
In a tightly contested duel that had 11 lead changes and 13 ties, Citron poured in 32 points on an efficient 12-for-18 shooting night, knocked down four of seven from beyond the arc, and added five assists along with two blocks and a steal. Her scoring spree gave Hive a late lead and a chance to push past Vinyl, but the team ultimately escaped with a 74-71 victory.
Citron‘s night at the offensive end was a reminder of the upside Hive acquired when they inked her in the team’s inaugural Unrivaled campaign. The guard’s stroke looked smooth from mid-range and long range, and she repeatedly took the ball downhill to create for herself and teammates. Yet even with Citron‘s production, Hive‘s offense faced a stubborn Vinyl defense that dictated pace and contested every touch in a game that featured relentless back-and-forth action from the opening tip.
Citron’s unreal flexibility
As Sonia Citron was fighting for a ball, she was down on her knees being guarded by Vinyl’s Rhyne Howard. However, the inertia of the play made it so that Citron ended up bending backwards in a move that looked like a yoga one. Luckily for everyone, Sonia was fine after the play.
The game showcased the broader scope of Hive BC‘s early-season challenges in the Unrivaled league. Hive‘s roster combined young talent with veterans, and Citron‘s hot night was tempered by Vinyl’s balanced attack. Monique Billings anchored Hive with a double-double, finishing with 23 points and 15 rebounds, but Vinyl’s depth and efficiency proved decisive in the closing minutes as the visitors held Hive to crucial plays when it mattered most.
Citron‘s performance underscored the excitement surrounding Hive BC’s arrival in Miami. The team debuted in January 2026 with aspirations of establishing a stylistic identity in the Unrivaled landscape, and Citron‘s breakout offered a tangible glimpse of that potential.
A confident proving ground for Citron
While the result stung, the night served as a confident proving ground for Citron, whose athleticism and decision-making in the open floor suggest she’ll be a central figure in Hive’s ongoing pursuit of consistency and success.
Hive BC now shifts focus to refining rotations, exploiting matchup advantages, and sustaining Citron‘s scoring punch while leaning on the rest of the roster to tighten defense and rebounding. If the season’s early returns are any indication, Sonia’s growth could coincide with Hive’s climb toward the league’s upper echelon.
