Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda Prize Money: How much will the winner of this championship fight take home?

After the glamour displayed for the fight between Shakur Stevenson and William Zepeda, it remains to be seen how much the winner will take home. So now we enter a Sherlock Holmes mystery with magnifying glass and all

Much has been written about the qualities of each of the fighters who will be battling it out this Saturday in the Queens ring, we know their records, characteristics and former opponents. Now it’s time to see who will take home the big prize

How much did Stevenson take home in his last fights?

The secrecy surrounding it is greater than that of a pressure cooker lid cooking Dominican rice. There are specific details, snippets of hallway gossip, but rarely is the truth heard from the mouths of the protagonists

Stevenson pocketed $1.7 million in his fight against Jimmy Herring, according to several reports, including media outlets such as The Ring. This does not include corollaries such as advertising and ticket and TV revenues

When Stevenson won the lightweight title from Edwin de Los Santos, he earned a total income of between three and four million dollars, and in Riyadh, in the “Last Crescent”, it was around that figure

Of course, he will earn more now, especially if he is the undefeated world champion and the main attraction of the card, but that is another matter

The purse split for Zepeda and how the WBC distributes it

Zepeda, also unbeaten and with more than 30 fights under his belt, 33 to be precise, with 27 knockouts, comes from earning about $500,000 in the fight against Joseph Diaz, including bonuses. Little by little, fist by fist, he has been climbing the rankings

We are talking about a base calculation of around $800,000, but it could reach almost $2 million with additional ticket sales and broadcasting rights. That’s being conservative.

According to the usual WBC rules, the champion takes 70 percent of the total purse, while the challenger receives 30 percent. If this scheme is applied, and we take into account a projected total figure of $5 million, Stevenson will pocket around $3.5 million, while Zepeda will take home more than $2 million

What is at stake besides money?

Stevenson sees this skirmish as a prelude to a possible mega fight against Gervonta Davis. That’s the view of Eddie Hearn, his promoter.

For Zepeda, however, this is the biggest challenge of his career. Winning this fight for him means entering the juicy market of big contracts and fights in Las Vegas.
