Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant has candidly shared his thoughts on retirement, acknowledging that his time in the NBA is drawing closer to an end.

Speaking on The Boardroom podcast, Durant reflected on the reality of aging in the league and the emotional weight of preparing for life beyond basketball.

There’s going to come a time where it’s not my place. And we’re creeping closer to that.

“It’s crazy to think about as the season winds down… this is what I center my life around, is the game,” Durant said. “So to know that I have a handful of years hopefully left, I’ve got to start getting prepared for that next phase.”

Durant’s legendary career

Durant entered the NBA in 2007 and quickly established himself as one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. Over nearly two decades, he has remained a dominant force, currently serving as one of the top veteran scorers in the game.

His career averages highlight his consistency and excellence:

  • 36.7 minutes per game
  • 27.2 points per game
  • 50.2% shooting from the field
  • 7 rebounds per game
  • 4.4 assists per game

Life beyond the court

While the Rockets star admits nothing will fully replace the thrill of competition, he finds fulfillment in the relationships and experiences basketball has given him.

“For me, I’ve accepted that I’ll never be able to fill that space up,” he explained.

“What fulfilled me is the camaraderie, the brotherhood, the people I’ve met,” Durant asserted. “Just interacting with basketball fans around the world-that’s the coolest part. I could still hoop, still go to a gym and shoot, and keep that routine centered around basketball when I’m done playing.”
