It’s no secret that one of Gervonta Davis‘ biggest critics is Shakur Stevenson, who has insisted on a fight with ‘Tank‘, but his attempts have failed due to the eminent rejection of the Baltimore native
On this occasion, Shakur spoke to the media and was asked to give a prediction for the possible rematch between Lamont Roach Jr. and Gervonta Davis, his answer will not surprise many
“I like Lamont in the rematch. I sparred with Lamont. I knew he was a good fighter and he helped me prepare for the fight against Oscar Valdez. I knew, because of his style and Tank’s, what he was going to bring,” Stevenson said when asked why he had predicted that Roach would beat Gervonta in their first fight
Will Shakur face the winner of the rematch?
It is a very distant possibility, as Gervonta’s plans do not seem to include Stevenson even in the medium term of his career
“I can’t tell you what plans I have because I might be fighting these guys,” Shakur said when asked what adjustments Roach will make for his rematch with Gervonta. “So I’ll keep my secrets, but the truth is that they are both good fighters,” were his words when asked about his future, he himself is not clear
Shakur should not take it for granted that he will face Davis and Roach. His style is not to the liking of many boxing experts and insiders and there is no guarantee that Tank will agree to fight him. His future could be overshadowed by his choice of Padley and Harutyunyan instead of top opponents
Did Gervonta go into the first fight against Lamont overconfident?
“No, it was the same Tank. I don’t think so. I can’t think of anything that makes me think it wasn’t the same person as in all those other fights. I think it was the same person,” said Stevenson on whether Davis had the mental preparation needed for his fight against Roach.
“Everything that’s going on, everybody goes through it. It’s the same fighter. So he’s going to be the same fighter throughout his career,” Shakur told Fight Hub TV.
