Sergio Garcia roasted for Masters outfit that sparked Ronald McDonald comparisons

Sergio Garcia made headlines at the Masters Tournament-not for his swing, but for his style. The Spanish golfer, known for his fiery passion and 2017 green jacket, showed up to Augusta sporting a LIV Golf uniform so bold that fans immediately likened it to something straight out of a fast-food playbook.

The red and yellow ensemble, representing his LIV Golf team Fireballs GC, caught the internet’s attention for all the wrong reasons. Social media lit up with memes and jabs, with many drawing comparisons to Ronald McDonald. One post even dubbed it an “atrocity,” while others joked it was harder to look at than a triple bogey.

Fashion faux pas or brand loyalty?

While the outfit was undeniably eye-catching, it also served a purpose. The Masters, one of golf’s most prestigious tournaments, is where LIV Golf players often push to make their presence known. With fewer branding opportunities than their PGA Tour counterparts, LIV stars like Garcia seize major stages to showcase team logos and merchandise.

Garcia, now captain of Fireballs GC, is no stranger to controversy since leaving the PGA Tour. He reportedly signed a four-year, $40 million deal to join the Saudi-backed league-excluding potential winnings and apparel deals. That paycheck may soften the blow of being the butt of social media jokes, but it also raises questions: Is standing out worth the ridicule?

A master of the game, not the wardrobe

It’s worth noting that Garcia is still a force to be reckoned with on the course. His Masters victory in 2017 cemented his legacy, and his presence continues to stir emotion, whether it’s admiration for his game or side-eyes for his wardrobe.

Though he may not rake in the same attention as Phil Mickelson or Brooks Koepka these days, Garcia remains a key figure in the ongoing PGA vs. LIV narrative. Unfortunately for him, this week’s spotlight wasn’t on his leaderboard position, but on a uniform that looked better suited for flipping burgers than chasing birdies.
