Sean McVay is fed up with Puka Nacua’s troubles. Although the catcher had one of the best years of his young career, off the field, the story was very different. An incident during a New Year’s celebration landed the wide receiver in legal trouble, and today, McVay sent him a stern message.
Nacua is accused of biting a woman and hurling an antisemitic slur during a night out with a group of friends on New Year’s Eve in Los Angeles.
Although Nacua’s lawyers have tried to dismiss the incident, saying it was just “horseplay” between two friends, the victim filed a lawsuit against him.
With spring training just a few weeks away, McVay finally broke his silence on the incident. In a recent interview, he sent a stern message to his receiver.
McVay’s message to Nacua
Talking with NFL Network, the Rams’ head coach expressed his high regard for Nacua and said he wants to know all the facts before giving his opinion.
But I will say, knowing this guy for three years, I do trust his heart. I trust the human being, and I want to be able to put my arm around him.
McVay continued:
He knows that those are the expectations, and we’re hopeful that that will be something… that this will be an opportunity for him to learn and grow, and we are hopeful that he’s a Ram for a really long time.
According to McVay, Nacua understands that his responsibilities “are not just the production on the field.”
Nacua had a stellar year with the Rams
Nacua was a key player in leading the Rams to the NFC Championship Game. His outstanding performance in the regular season earned him his second Pro Bowl selection and his first First Team All-Pro honors.
During the regular season, Nacua recorded:
- 129 receptions
- 166 targets
- 1,715 yards
- 10 touchdowns
However, his off-field issues are overshadowing his accomplishments on the gridiron.
