Schottenheimer details conversations with Dak Prescott after breakup with Sarah Jane Ramos

The Dallas Cowboys‘ offseason has been defined as much by personal headlines as football preparation, placing quarterback Dak Prescott in an unusual spotlight.

While the franchise attempts to reset after a disappointing year, questions about Prescott‘s recent breakup have followed him into team discussions, prompting head coach Brian Schottenheimer to address the situation publicly.

Schottenheimer, speaking during a media availability, didn’t shy away from acknowledging the topic. Instead, he struck a careful balance between empathy and maintaining focus on football, offering a glimpse into how the organization is supporting its franchise quarterback.

“He’s in a really good spot,” Schottenheimer said, via reports. “I think anytime you go through something like that, it’s tough. But I think he’s handled it the right way.”

The comments reflect a new reality for Prescott, whose life off the field has become part of the conversation when expectations in Dallas remain as high as ever. The veteran quarterback is not only coming off a challenging season but is also tasked with leading a team trying to reestablish itself as a contender.

Recent reports indicate the breakup came just weeks before a planned wedding, adding another layer of scrutiny to Prescott‘s offseason.

A quarterback under pressure on multiple fronts

For Prescott, the timing is far from ideal. The Cowboys are entering a critical stretch under Schottenheimer, who is looking to reshape the team’s identity after back-to-back disappointing finishes.

Dallas missed the playoffs in 2025 despite having a healthy roster for much of the year, intensifying pressure on both the coaching staff and their franchise quarterback.

Prescott, now a decade into his NFL career, remains the centerpiece of the organization. He holds multiple franchise records and continues to command one of the league’s most significant contracts.

Yet postseason success has remained elusive, and that reality continues to frame every evaluation of his performance.

Schottenheimer‘s public backing is consistent with how the coach has handled Prescott since taking over.

Even when discussing on-field development in the past, he has emphasized growth and accountability rather than criticism. That approach appears unchanged, even as the conversation shifts to more personal matters.

Around the league, Prescott has also received support from media figures and former players who point to his resilience through adversity. His career has already included significant personal hardship, and those close to the situation believe he has the tools to navigate this latest challenge as well.

For the Cowboys, the goal is clear: keep the focus on football while ensuring their quarterback remains supported. Prescott‘s ability to compartmentalize personal challenges could prove just as important as any adjustment on the field.
