Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney give big Wrexham news as they will debut in new sports role

What at first seemed like a risky adventure with a direct ticket to uncertainty has become an experience that demands greater commitment and responsibility due to the surprising results that are being achieved with Wrexham, a project that will be an example and a global soccer model in the future.

Together with his partner, Rob McElhenney, actor Ryan Reynolds invested in the purchase of the team without having any idea about soccer. The only thing he had was the money to bet on a business that, at first, was not profitable. On the contrary, it started with losses: a fifth division club with no future prospects. It gave the impression that it would be a business entertainment, an unnecessary waste of capital or a hobby toy. However, this was not the case.

It was an immediate click between the parties. This translated into the unthinkable decades ago: the Welsh side were promoted to the fourth division in 2023, the third division in 2024 and the second division in 2025. In three years they were promoted three divisions! They are currently competing in the Championship, the promotion circuit to the Premier League. If that wasn’t enough, they are fighting for the top places to gain promotion to the Premier League and are in the last 16 of the FA Cup.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney make major announcement

Nobody would have believed that the team’s new owners would be so committed to the project to the extent of revitalizing identity and belonging, the essence of soccer with its community. That’s exactly what they have achieved and they want it to increase.

The connection with the fans and the local population is extraordinary. In fact, fans of other British clubs have adopted Wrexham as their second team because of the sympathy it generates. Reynolds and McElhenney realised this and are looking for ways to get closer to the people, so they made an important announcement.

In anticipation of live-narrating the Swansea game, Rob McElhenney and I have been sending each other 90-minute voice notes for five years. Let’s do it! Tune in to Live from Wrexham on March 13

The live broadcast will be on Sky Sports and Paramount+ in the United States during the match between Wrexham and Swansea City, the famous Welsh Derby. It will be at Wrexham’s home, so a day of total celebration is expected for the community.

Wrexham and Ryan Reynolds are about to make history!

After 35 rounds of matches, the Welsh side are in sixth place overall. Of the 24 teams competing in the Championship, Wrexham are among the top six looking for the coveted ticket to the Premier League.

  • 57 points
  • 15 wins
  • 12 draws
  • 8 defeats
  • 54 goals scored
  • 45 goals against

It is 14 points behind leaders Coventry City and nine behind second-placed Middlesbrough. The teams that finish the season in the top two places are promoted directly. The teams that finish in third, fourth, fifth and sixth place play the playoff round for one of the four to be promoted. Wrexham and Reynolds are clinging to the goal of direct qualification, but they are also embracing the possibility of the third ticket in the playoffs. With 11 games remaining, they are going all out for promotion to the Premier League and their fourth division promotion in three years.
