Due to his high-profile name and previous explosive performances, Ryan Garcia could fall off in form horribly and still maintain high-level fight offers. It’s a testament to his incredible talent and ability to market himself. So when Garcia followed up a suspension with a convincing loss to Rolly Romero, it wasn’t all that surprising that King Ryan still got a world title shot for his next fight.
Garcia will take on Mario Barrios, who has something to prove himself following a draw against 46-year-old Manny Pacquiao. Garcia is favored at the moment, with the fight less than two months away. One would assume that Garcia is fully focused on the task at hand, but not everyone is sure of that.
Richardson Hitchins says Ryan Garcia isn’t even preparing for Mario Barrios
IBF light welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins isn’t fond of how Garcia is treating his preparation for the Barrios bout: “You be pissing me smooth off.”
Funnily enough, Garcia ended up posting a mirror selfie showing off his six-pack the following day. An hour later, he posted a link to one of his livestreams on Kick. Perhaps Hitchins sees Garcia’s streaming as a lack of focus. Garcia has been extremely busy in the livestream space recently, appearing on them frequently.
Hitchins might very well just be trying to set up a future fight against Garcia. Despite fighting Barrios for the WBC welterweight title, Garcia is a more natural fit at light welterweight, which is where Hitchins just successfully defended his IBF belt against George Kambosos Jr.
Hitchins could also be feeling like he should have gotten a shot at Barrios, in a move-up in weight, instead of Garcia. Whatever the case may be, Hitchins always knows how to rile other boxers up.
