After serving his one-year suspension with the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) for testing positive for a banned substance in his April 2024 fight against Devin Haney,Ryan Garcia‘s return is scheduled for May 2 against Rolly Romero, in the main event of the ‘Fatal Fury’ card at Times Square in New York City.

The card is completed by Devin Haney vs. Jose Ramirez in the co-main event, and Teofimo Lopez against Arnold Barboza Jr. in a title fight.

For this fight, KingRy had returned to the ranks of the Team Canelo after being part of it from 2018 to 2021, and had been training with Eddy Reynoso, but the upcoming fight of Saul Alvarez against William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia complicated the logistics.

Ryan Garcia found himself in the need to train with his father and brother, however, at the end of March it was reported that he had returned to Derrick James, his trainer in his last fight against Devin Haney, in the face of all this soap opera, the last snub of Ryan Garcia to his former mentor Canelo Alvarez can be explained

Ryan Garcia snubs Canelo for Crawford

Ryan Garcia has a long history with the Canelo Team, but after his frustrated return to the team, he was asked in an interview with Emily Austin on DAZN Boxing about who was the best pound-for-pound boxer and without hesitation chose Terence Crawford, who will be Saul Alvarez’s rival on September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

Although there was obvious disdain for Canelo‘s skills, KingRy later lifted him up by naming him as the current face of boxing, while he was later asked who would be the face of the future and true to his personality, he did not hesitate to respond: “Ryan Garcia”.

In a previous interview for the Ring Champs podcast, Ryan Garcia had already given his prediction for the fight Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford, and did not hesitate to choose the Mexican, although it is a prediction that also has to do with the weight difference.

“He (Crawford) can’t beat Canelo. He didn’t look that strong against Madrimov, and Madrimov isn’t even big,” Ryan Garcia said.
