Rory McIlroy showed his angry side recently at the Genesis Invitational as he shouted at a fan to ‘shut the f**k up’.
The Northern Irish golfer has been taking part in the San Diego-based event but he did not take well to being booed by some fans.
He missed a 10-foot birdie putt on the third hole of the final round which set off a very frustrating day, and he eventually finished finished nine strokes adrift of winner Ludvig Aberg after a final round of 72.
A fan shouted ‘blame your caddie’ at McIlroy when he missed the all-important putt, to which he could be heard saying ‘shut the f**k up’ in response.
It is a part of sport that athletes must be able to suck up a lot of heckling and abuse, but occasionally they do bite back when it all becomes too much.
McIlroy‘s caddie is his best friend, Harry Diamond, and he has come in for criticism recently after what many perceive to be a downturn in form.
McIlroy doesn’t mince his words
McIlroy recently crumbled at the US Open and he is clearly at a low point right now. Former caddie for Tiger Woods, Hank Haney, spoke about how McIlroy‘s close friendship with Diamond could be a problem for them on the green.
McIlroy hit back at his comments by saying: “Hank Haney has never been in that position.
“Just because Harry is not as vocal or loud with his words as other caddies, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t say anything and that he doesn’t do anything.
“I just wish that, you know, these guys that criticize when things don’t go my way, they never say anything good when things do go my way.’
He also added: “Someone said to me once, if you would never take advice from these people, you would never take their criticisms, either. Certainly wouldn’t go to Hank Haney for advice.”
