The NFL world is once again in mourning, following the tragic news that Rondale Moore has passed away. The Floyd County coroner confirmed on Saturday evening that Moore has died at the young age of 25.

The news of Moore’s passing sent shockwaves throughout the football community. His death has been confirmed and his former head coach at Purdue, Jeff Brohm, released a statement.

There is currently no official cause of death for Moore, as an investigation is now underway, but according to New Albany police chief Todd Bailey, Moore was found deceased in a garage with a “suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound”. Bailey was cited by Minnesota FOX 9 reporter Ahmad Hicks.

Moore’s last social media post came three days ago, featuring a carousel of photos of him training and enjoying life off the gridiron. The main photo featured a telling message: “Work in Progress“.

Rondale Moore was recovering from yet another major knee injury ahead of 2026 season

The 25-year-old’s NFL career was filled with trials and tribulations. When on the field at Purdue, before joining the NFL, Moore was one of the most electric playmakers in the entire nation. But his smaller stature made him more vulnerable to injuries, which he dealt with during his final two collegiate seasons.

He was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He started just seven games during his rookie season, then dealt with hamstring and groin injuries that limited him to eight games in 2022. He was finally healthy in 2023, but couldn’t carve out a major role in Arizona’s offense.

The wide receiver was then traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, only to suffer a season-ending knee injury during training camp. At nearly the same point a year later, while with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year contract, Moore suffered another season-ending knee injury.

Moore was set to hit free agency this March, with a one-year, prove-it deal the likely outcome.
