Raiders make $35m signing that could confirm Fernando Mendoza’s future

The Las Vegas Raiders are making bold moves to reshape their franchise under new head coach Klint Kubiak. After a disappointing 3-14 season in 2025, the Raiders secured the first overall pick in the NFL Draft and are widely expected to select quarterback Fernando Mendoza to lead the next era.

However, a young quarterback needs weapons, and the Raiders are already addressing that need by signing wide receiver Jalen Nailor to a major contract that could transform the offense.

According to Adam Schefter, “Raiders have agreed to terms with WR Jalen Nailor on a three-year, $35 million deal including $23 million guaranteed, per Ken Sarnoff and Joe DiBenedetto of 1 Of 1 Agency.”

This move is a clear indication that Kubiak is committed to surrounding his future franchise quarterback with playmakers capable of creating game-changing moments.

Last season, the Raiders struggled significantly in the receiving game, ranking 26th in the league in receiving offense with only 195 yards per game.

While Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton have yet to consistently produce, Tre Tucker led the unit with 696 receiving yards on 57 receptions and five touchdowns. By comparison, Bech and Thornton combined for fewer than 400 yards.

Nailor brings a different dimension to the offense. Although he played as a backup to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison in Minnesota, Nailor demonstrated his ability to find the end zone, posting four touchdowns on 444 receiving yards last season.

“Many people believe that he has untapped potential, since he was overshadowed on the Minnesota Vikings,” insiders said.

Building a new era in Las Vegas

Nailor also posted over 400 scrimmage yards for the second consecutive year, signaling consistent production and room to grow.

The signing represents a massive increase over Nailor‘s rookie contract of $3.84 million, with $23 million guaranteed over three years.

Kubiak has made it clear that he intends to overhaul the Raiders offense to give Mendoza the best chance at success.

A fast, explosive receiving corps is critical for a young quarterback, and Nailor appears poised to be a central piece of that plan.

Beyond wide receivers, Kubiak is strengthening the offensive line and defensive backfield.

The Raiders reportedly agreed to terms with Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum on a three-year, $81 million deal.

Linderbaum, the Rimington Trophy-winning center from the Iowa Hawkeyes, will provide stability and protection for the franchise quarterback once Mendoza arrives.

Additionally, the team retained cornerback Eric Stokes with a three-year, $30 million contract. Last season, Stokes recorded 35 solo tackles and five pass deflections, solidifying his role in the Raiders’ secondary.

More room to make more signings

The team still holds $110 million in cap space, partially freed up by trading edge rusher Maxx Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens for nearly $30 million in salary cap relief.

With these moves, Kubiak is laying the foundation for a dynamic offense and a competitive roster.

The signing of Nailor is particularly significant as it ensures Mendoza will have a talented weapon from day one.

As the Raiders enter free agency, fans will be watching closely to see which other pieces are added to this emerging side, although it may not be until a few years in the future until they are competitive again.
