In a big step that shook up Major League Baseball,Rafael Devers has moved from the Boston Red Sox to the San Francisco Giants.

This is one of the key trades of the 2025 MLB year. The Giants, wanting a strong hitter, got Devers for top young stars Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs, and Jose Bello, with pitcher Jordan Hicks.

Devers’ contract with San Francisco Giants

Devers first got a 10-year, $313.5 million deal from the Red Sox in 2023, making him the main star and franchise figure. Nevertheless, issues with Boston’s top team made him leave. The Giants will take on the $250 million left on his deal, set to go until 2033.

Here is a breakdown of what he will make now:

  • 2025: $27 million
  • 2026: $27 million
  • 2027-2033: $28.5 million each year

Plus, Devers get $7.5 million put off each year from 2034 to 2043, giving him money in years to come.

Why did the Red Sox let go of Devers?

Red Sox fans had mixed feelings about the trade. Some understood it was good for money, but others were sad to see a top left-hand hitter go.

It seems that Boston’s leaders didn’t want to stick with Devers’ big contract due to not getting along and issues with his group talks. It is known that the Red Sox took the first Giants offer they got, as per ESPN’sBuster Olney.

Next homework for Red Sox and Giants

For the Giants, this trade shows they are all in to win big. Devers, who has been picked for the All-Star team three times, has a .271/.400/.494 score with 14 home runs and 57 RBIs, making him the best hitter in San Francisco.

For the Red Sox, it lets them save big money for new stars, but fans are not happy since they seek playoff aspirations and Devers was a key player for that purpose

Devers might soon be the main hitter for the Giants, as Matt Chapman keeps playing third base. Even though Oracle Park is not as good for hitters as Fenway, Devers’ top hitting skills should keep him strong at bat.

Let see how it goes for him in this new experience.
