In a move that seemed almost certain, the Pittsburgh Pirates officially announced that Paul Skenes, their young star pitcher, will be the team’s Opening Day starter for the 2025 season. The announcement came in the form of an exciting behind-the-scenes video shared by the team on social media.

The video showed manager Derek Shelton delivering the news to Skenes, who will now carry the responsibility of leading the Pirates on Opening Day against the Miami Marlins.

Fans celebrate the obvious choice

Given his achievements, it was no surprise that the Pirates would turn to Skenes to start their 2025 season. Fans, especially those on X (formerly Twitter), expressed their excitement and appreciation for the move. Many of them felt that it was clear from the start that Skenes would be the one to take the mound, and the announcement only confirmed what everyone had expected.

A new chapter for the Pirates

The 2025 season will kick off with Skenes leading the Pirates in Miami, facing off against the Marlins at loanDepot Park. Fans are eager to see if Skenes can continue his dominant form and help lead the Pirates back into contention. His presence on the mound represents a new chapter for the team, one that fans hope will usher in a period of success for Pittsburgh baseball.

With the hype surrounding Skenes only growing, the pressure is on for the young pitcher to deliver a strong performance.
