The Philadelphia Eagles’ elimination in the wild-card round of the playoffs hit hard. After a turbulent season filled with speculation, the loss may spark major changes in the locker room-starting with the possible departure of star wide receiver A.J. Brown.
The seven-year veteran remains one of the NFL’s most dominant receivers. However, 2025 proved challenging, as he managed just 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns on 78 receptions.
Turning 29 this year, experts believe Brown is still in his prime. His dip in production was largely attributed to changes in the Eagles’ offense, where tight end Dallas Goedert saw increased opportunities.
Despite that, trade rumors surrounding Brown are heating up, especially after ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler broke down the financial implications.
Brown could save Eagles $7 million
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), SportsRadio94WIP reported: “An A.J. Brown trade is possible this offseason, according to @jfolwerespn.”
Fowler explained that the Eagles could save $7 million in salary cap space by designating Brown as a post-June 1 trade. He added that multiple teams across the league are closely monitoring the situation.
“It feels like it’s time,” Fowler said. “Some league executives have felt that way since October.”
An NFL personnel evaluator, speaking anonymously, echoed the sentiment: “He’s an immediate upgrade for any team. He can make an immediate impact and elevate the entire offense.”
Potential landing spots for Brown
According to the scout, the Buffalo Bills are among the top contenders. “The Bills need to upgrade at receiver. Khalil Shakir is a solid player, but he’s not a true No. 1 option,” the scout noted.
Other teams reportedly interested include the Titans, Browns, 49ers, and Raiders. The first three franchises have young quarterbacks in need of a reliable target.
Las Vegas, for its part, is expected to draft Fernando Mendoza in 2026 and could use a veteran playmaker to support him.
With his combination of youth, production, explosiveness, and playoff experience, Brown is shaping up to be one of the most coveted names in the offseason market, assuming the Eagles decide to move on.
