Paul Skenes is the cornerstone of the Pirates: Don Kelly’s blunt response to exit rumors

It is no secret that Paul Skenes has become more than an asset for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The pitcher is an emblem and, at the same time, a lifeline for the franchise, beyond the good numbers he gives them. In many cases, his name has come up as a serious possibility for capitalization

However, the team does not even want to think about letting him go, no matter how bad the situation is in the season, as is the case, as the Pirates are suffering a lot, as with a losing record of 21-36 they lie at the bottom of the National League Central Division.

Will Skenes leave Pittsburgh?

Since almost the beginning of the season in Major League Baseball, there have been rumors of an eventual trade for Skenes, who has shown that he is far above his team, which is why his obvious talent is practically overflowing outside PNC Park and is coveted by other franchises.

The National League Rookie of the Year is not immune to the poor start to last season and his numbers have suffered a significant drop, but he always finds a way to shine, as he recently did last Tuesday with a six-run comeback to win 9-6, and Pittsburgh capped it off by closing out the series with a resounding 10-1 victory over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday at Chase Park.

“He’s the player you want to build your team around”

Both factors, the exit rumors and Skenes’ inexhaustible brilliance combine to create a bombshell that has to be put out day in and day out, and this time Pirates manager Don Kelly stepped in to put an end to the press questions about that possibility.

“He keeps developing, keeps growing. He’s a true pitcher, not just a thrower. Just the way he works, everything. He’s definitely a player you want to build your team around (…) Paul is the only thing we see that doesn’t change, despite the situation. He keeps doing the same thing, whether he doesn’t get the support he needs or, like today, he did,” Kelly concluded.
