The New England Patriots received a key reinforcement ahead of Sunday’s AFC Championship matchup in Denver, with Mack Hollins returning from an abdominal injury just in time.
While his availability was important for the Patriots on the field, it was his unforgettable arrival that dominated pregame conversation across social media.
True to form, Hollins showed up at Empower Field without shoes, casually strolling into the visiting locker room barefoot on Sunday morning.
Adding to the spectacle, the 6-foot-4 wideout appeared to have empty beer bottles slid over three of his fingers.
In a video captured by NFL Network reporter Cameron Wolfe, Hollins leaned fully into the moment by channeling a line from the 1979 cult-classic thriller The Warriors.
“Warriors,” Hollins called out while clinking the bottles together. “Come out to play!”
A familiar sight for Patriots fans
The clip quickly made the rounds online, drawing a mix of amusement, confusion, and disbelief from fans. Some questioned whether the veteran receiver had taken things a step too far.
“The guy might be psycho,” one fan wrote on X. Another joked: “Bros drunk [as f***].”
While the theatrics may have shocked casual viewers, longtime Patriots followers are well aware that this is classic Hollins.
The 32-year-old is famous for avoiding footwear whenever possible, turning up at their regular season game in December without a shirt and barefoot.
It’s a personal quirk that has become part of his public identity. This time, however, the timing – just hours before a conference championship – amplified the reaction.
From a football standpoint, Hollins‘ return carries real significance. He was recently activated off injured reserve after missing time with an abdominal issue suffered in December.
Hollins’ importance on offense
Although his early-season production was modest, with just 11 receptions through his first seven games and 550 receiving yards, his role expanded as the year progressed.
In October, Hollins broke out against the Cleveland Browns, recording seven catches for 89 yards.
He followed that performance in November with a six-reception, 106-yard outing in a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
His chemistry with quarterback Drake Maye was also on display in December, when the duo connected seven times for 69 yards during a victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
The Patriots, coached by Mike Vrabel, boast one of the league’s deepest receiving rooms.
Veteran star Stefon Diggs headlines the group, supported by emerging contributors Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas, and rookie Kyle Williams.
That balance helped fuel an offense that finished second in scoring and third in total yardage during the regular season.
Ahead of the AFC Championship game, Hollins’ warrior spirit will help motivate his teammates, although they may not need it with the Super Bowl just one game away.
Whether his fashion-related antics translate into postseason heroics remains to be seen. But once again, Hollins has ensured that all eyes are firmly on him.
