Patrick Mahomes sent a strong message to all his Kansas City Chiefs teammates; things are tense within the team

Since the season began, projections weren’t positive for the Chiefs, especially because in the AFC West, the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers both made the playoffs last season, and both teams had taken a step forward. That meant Patrick Mahomes and company were in serious trouble.

The situation was that, despite reaching their third consecutive Super Bowl, the Chiefs did not fully convince. The offense looked stagnant, and it was most evident in the battle for the Vince Lombardi Trophy, where they were soundly defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22. The offense simply could not execute, and the points they scored came when the game was already out of reach.

In fact, one of the strongest critics of the Chiefs has been journalist Colin Cowherd, who said during the preseason that Kansas City would lose the division-the AFC West-which they have ruled for nine years. And so far, he’s been right; everything indicates that no one will take the divisional title away from the Denver Broncos, who currently lead with a 10-2 record.

Patrick Mahomes’ numbers have been impressive, and even so, the Chiefs are outside the playoff picture

With five weeks left in the season, the Kansas City Chiefs are currently two games out of the playoffs, a surprising situation considering they haven’t missed the postseason since 2014. There are still possibilities, but there is no margin for error for Andy Reid’s team.

A month ago, Patrick Mahomes was the No. 1 favorite to win MVP, but after the games in November-where the Chiefs lost three out of four-DraftKings no longer has him in the Top 10 candidates. And the cruel part is that the Chiefs are out of the playoffs despite Mahomes having very strong numbers this season.

Last season was the first time since 2016 that Mahomes didn’t surpass 4,000 passing yards, but projections for 2025 indicate he will reach that milestone again. Mahomes currently has 3,238 yards, 22 touchdown passes, and just 7 interceptions-excellent numbers-and yet the team remains far from playoff contention.

Next Sunday Night Football, the Chiefs face a direct playoff rival: the Houston Texans. The game will be decisive for Kansas City; if they lose, they could say goodbye to any postseason hopes. Every game from here on out will be do-or-die for Andy Reid’s team.
