Patrick Mahomes is approaching Super Bowl week from a very different place, rehabbing a serious knee injury at home while his team watches the postseason unfold without him.
Mahomes saw his 2025 season come to an abrupt end in Week 15, tearing both his ACL and LCL in the closing moments of the Kansas City Chiefs loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
The defeat officially knocked Kansas City out of playoff contention. Mahomes underwent reconstructive surgery shortly after, performed by Dallas Cowboys physician Dr. Daniel Cooper, and is now working toward a return for Week 1 of the 2026 season.
For the first time in four years, Mahomes will watch the Super Bowl from home. The shift has been both physical and mental, forcing the three-time Super Bowl MVP into a slower routine shaped around rehabilitation and family.
Mahomes has leaned on the presence of his wife, Brittany Mahomes, and their three children, Sterling, Bronze, and Golden Raye, as he adjusts to the reality of recovery instead of competition.
Brittany Mahomes steps into the spotlight with UT Tyler honour
While Mahomes works through one of the most challenging stretches of his career, Brittany Mahomes is being celebrated for accomplishments that long predate their life in the NFL spotlight.
On January 30, University of Texas at Tyler announced that Brittany, along with Dr. Howard Patterson and the 2016 Softball Team, will make up the sixth class entering the UT Tyler Athletics Hall of Fame. Brittany attended UT Tyler from 2013 to 2016, where she built one of the strongest résumés in the history of the women’s soccer programme.
Her 2016 season remains the clearest example of her impact. That year, she set programme records for points with 40, goals with 18, and game-winning goals with 7. She also recorded four separate matches with three goals, tying the best single-game mark in school history.
Mahomes acknowledged the news quietly, sharing the announcement on his Instagram Stories without comment. The pride, however, was unmistakable.
