Patrick Mahomes finally shares a positive message on Social Media – What was the reason?

During the Patrick Mahomes era-especially since his second NFL season when he became the full-time starter-the Chiefs became accustomed to sitting at the top of the league, with major victories, three Super Bowl titles, and many other achievements. However, the 2025 season brought several setbacks that have forced the organization to reconsider many things.

Although the Chiefs reached their fifth Super Bowl of the Patrick Mahomes era in 2024, the team had already been showing signs of offensive decline, and in that game against the Philadelphia Eagles they were clearly outplayed. The effects carried into the 2025 season, where the team not only lost the AFC West title, but also missed the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

To make matters worse, Patrick Mahomes suffered the most serious injury of his career. The quarterback had often played through pain in the past, but in Week 15 against the Los Angeles Chargers, he tore the ACL in his left knee. He is currently in rehabilitation, and there is uncertainty about whether he will be ready for Week 1 of next season.

Patrick Mahomes reacts on social media

In recent hours, the Chiefs franchise has undergone significant changes. The team traded its top cornerback, Trent McDuffie, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for multiple draft picks, including a 2026 first-round selection (No. 29 overall). The main reason behind the trade was that the Chiefs were not willing to offer the large contract he was expected to demand.

Following the move, Mahomes posted a message on social media that many interpreted as disappointment over the departure of his teammate.

However, a few hours later, Mahomes reappeared on social media again-this time in a more positive tone. The Texas Tech Red Raiders honored him by showcasing special edition jerseys of the now NFL superstar.

Despite being one of the league’s biggest stars today, Mahomes has always stayed closely connected to Texas Tech, where he developed as a quarterback and ultimately became a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. During his final college season, he threw for 5,052 yards and 41 touchdowns, while also adding 12 rushing touchdowns.

Mahomes is now focused on his rehabilitation with the goal of being ready for Week 1. Meanwhile, the Chiefs hold two first-round picks in the upcoming draft (No. 9 and No. 29) and will likely prioritize adding weapons around their quarterback in order to compete again in an increasingly competitive AFC.
