Outspoken Ana Maria Markovic, the ‘world’s most beautiful footballer’, walks out on club

Croatian international Ana Maria Markovic has parted ways with SC Braga after just half a season, with the club confirming the termination of her contract by mutual agreement.

The decision comes shortly after Markovic shared an emotional TikTok video, where she admitted, “Sometimes I just hate football.”

The 25-year-old forward joined Braga last summer but struggled for playing time, making only four appearances. Her frustration became evident last month when she posted a tearful farewell to her boyfriend, fellow footballer Tomas Ribeiro, following his transfer to Farnese. The couple had previously been based just 25 kilometers apart, with Ribeiro playing for Vitoria Guimaraes.

Markovic reflected on her time at Braga

Braga released an official statement thanking Markovic for her professionalism and dedication during her short spell at the club. In response, she took to Instagram to express gratitude for her experience, despite the unexpected early departure.

“Sometimes things don’t go as planned. After just half a season, I decided to leave SC Braga,” Markovic wrote.

“It was a short but intense journey with ups and downs, but one in which I was able to grow and develop a lot as a footballer.”

She also praised her teammates, calling them the highlight of her time at Braga.

“The best part? Definitely my teammates! Thank you for your support, team spirit, and all the great moments on and off the pitch – you are amazing!”

Although her time at Braga has ended, Markovic appears set to remain in Portugal. A recent TikTok video featuring Ribeiro, captioned “New chapter, new home” alongside a Portuguese flag, suggests she may soon announce her next club.

Born in Split, Croatia, Markovic moved to Switzerland at 12 and took up football seriously at 14. Off the pitch, she has been an outspoken advocate for gender equality in sports, calling out the sexist treatment female footballers often face on social media.

While her future club remains unknown, Markovic is focused on continuing her football journey and inspiring young players along the way.
