It has been almost a year since Ryan Garcia surprisingly defeated Devin Haney and although a rematch seemed close, it may not happen.
In April last year, ‘KingRy’ and ‘The Dream’ met in New York, and although most expected a landslide victory for Haney, the Mexican-American fighter went all out and left his opponent with no chance.
However, although he won in the ring by majority decision, officials subsequently detected the banned substance ostarine in Garcia, overturning his victory and leading to a one-year suspension from boxing, as well as the payment of fines
Essentially Sports recalls that shortly afterwards, ‘The Dream’ sued Garcia for assault, fraud and breach of contract, although in 2025 they reached an agreement that states that Ryan will fight Haney in a rematch, which will exempt him from the lawsuit
However, that rematch may not take place if both do not come out victorious in their fights already scheduled for May 2 in New York, in which Ryan Garcia will face Rolly Romero and Devin Haney will do the same against Jose Ramirez.
Oscar De La Hoya believes the rematch may not take place
Ryan Garcia’s promoter, Oscar de la Hoya, believes that the Garcia vs Haney rematch may not happen, as he does not believe that ‘The Dream’ will beat Ramirez.
In an interview with DAZN Boxing, ‘Golden Boy’ even said that he believes Ramirez will give Haney a beating.“I feel that Ramirez is going to beat up Devin Haney,” De La Hoya said in the interview. “We’re not going to see two Ryan Garcia-Devin Haney. I think Ramirez will stop the show. I think Ramirez is going to beat up Devin Haney,” the promoter detailed.
And about the outcome of the fight between Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero, Hall of Famer Tim Bradley is betting everything on ‘KingRy’, trusting that he will win by knockout thanks to his left hook.
“I think Ryan will catch him with that left hook and it will be an unforgettable night,” Bradley told Fight Hub TV.
“Ryan has definitely changed, I think. I think his character has definitely changed, with the way he behaves now. Much more calm, very respectful. He seems like a real businessman now,” Bradley added.
“I respect that about Ryan, and I think now he’ll be much more focused… I think he’ll win by knockout,” he said.
We’ll see if these predictions come true or if Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney win their respective fights and the rematch takes place.
