Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has met with boxer Oleksandr Usyk, who regained his status as undisputed heavyweight champion by defeating Britain’s Daniel Dubois in July, with the idea of strengthening Ukraine’s voice in the world.

“Today we all strive to ensure that Ukraine’s voice in the world is strong and influential,” Zelensky wrote on his Telegram account, referring to Usyk. “This is possible when legends of Ukraine, known in every corner of the planet, join the efforts of politicians and diplomats on the international stage,” he added.

The Ukrainian head of state referred to the boxer as one of those Ukrainian legends because he is the “undisputed world champion”, as he holds all the world titles in his category.

Zelensky said that in his meeting with Usyk they talked about “how to strengthen” Ukraine’s position in the world, “especially in the United States“, and “how to prevent Russia’s crimes from being forgotten“, among other things, such as the “courage that Ukrainians have shown for more than 1,256 days of war“.

“We also talked about promoting a healthy lifestyle among young people, supporting and motivating children to have an active life through sport,” said Zelensky, who published several photos in his message that showed the meeting with the boxer. “We work together for Ukraine, for freedom, for peace,” Zelensky concluded.
