In the MLB offseason, there were two jewels on a list of talented players. One was Juan Soto, who secured the most lucrative contract in MLB history at $765 million for 15 years with the New York Mets. The other gem was Japanese star Roki Sasaki, who was the desire of most teams and, in the end, chose the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The task for the Dodgers to convince Sasaki was not an easy one, and they used all their possible charms, with most of their stars involved. Freddie Freeman was one of them and detailed in Foul Territory in a story in which he confirmed the trick he used Shohei Ohtani to finally attract Roki.

“Mookie, Tommy Edman, Will Smith, Shohei and I were the guys who were there,” Freddie Freeman told Foul Territory‘s X account on X, before revealing Ohtani’s final strategy: “Shohei was with him the whole time. Shohei brought his dog, because Roki also likes dogs… We knew what we were doing.”

Decoy, Shohei Ohtani‘s dog, has conquered the fans of the Los Angeles Dodgers, since he made his stellar appearance at the ceremony in which his owner was decorated as the National League Most Valuable Player, and he already had his part to help the team, as he played a key role in attracting Roki Sasaki

“It was more about showing him what the culture is like among us, the guys who are already on the team, and showing him that he would feel comfortable if he came with us,” Freeman explained of the work done by the players involved in the meeting with Sasaki, in addition to what ace Ohtani could do, using Decoy as his secret weapon.
