Jeremiah Smith is one of the most talked-about young talents on the Ohio State Buckeyes. But he may have caused a stir with his college program after crossing the rivalry border – revealing that his “dream quarterback” is none other than Tom Brady.

The remark came as a surprise to many within the Ohio State community, where the rivalry with Michigan remains one of the most intense in American sports.

Brady famously came through the Michigan program before going on to become of the one greatest NFL quarterbacks in history, winning six Super Bowl rings with the New England Patriots and another with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to Smith, the admiration began long before his rise at Ohio State. “You’ve got to go Tom Brady. That’s the GOAT (greatest of all time). You’ve got to go Tom Brady,” he said on DeepCut with VicBlends when discussing his dream QB.

Asked if he was sure, he added: “Yeah. There’s no debate. No debate.”

Respect crosses lines of rivalry

While the Ohio State vs. Michigan rivalry remains one of the fiercest in sports, Smith‘s selection of Brady highlights a reality in modern college football: admiration for legendary figures transcends traditional boundaries.

Even Brady himself has spoken in past interviews about respecting great players regardless of school colors.

Analysts have noted that Smith‘s approach mirrors the traits he admires most in Tom Brady: consistency, relentless attention to detail, and a refusal to bow to pressure.

Within the locker room, teammates have described him as “obsessed with preparation,” a quality long associated with Brady during his time with both the Patriots and the Buccaneers.

A breakout season for Smith

The current campaign has been a defining period for Smith. With standout performances and an increasingly commanding presence in the Buckeyes offense, he has positioned himself as a foundational figure for the program’s future.

The Miami-born prospect has delivered 11 touchdowns in the endzone from 80 catches and 1,601 yards overall, helping the Buckeyes carve out an 11-1 record.

His route running, physicality, and game awareness have improved with each outing, earning praise across the Big Ten.

With the season entering its decisive stretch, expectations for Smith continue to grow. The Buckeyes remain focused on strengthening their playoff position, and Smith is expected to play a pivotal role in those ambitions.

His personal drive, fueled by studying elite quarterbacks like Brady, has only magnified his impact. Whether Smith ultimately follows a professional path that mirrors his idol remains to be seen.
